Why Gov. Uzodinma Was Right To Describe The Killing Of Monarchs As A Desecration Of Sacred Stool

The Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma has reacted to the attack of traditional monarchs in Imo State. According to a report on Sahara Reporters, the monarchs were attacked by unknown gunmen, at the Nnenasa community, headquarters of Njaba local government area of Imo State. The monarchs were reportedly at a meeting when the unknown gunmen group, stormed the venue and started shooting sporadically.

Two of the monarchs lost their lives in the incident, while others who sustained an injury, were rushed to the hospital. Governor Hope Uzodinma addressed a press conference after the incident, the Governor said the incident is very pathetic and condemnable. The Governor commiserated with the people of Njaba Local Government Area over the unfortunate incident. He described the incident as an expression of wickedness and the desecration of sacred stool.

Governor Hope Uzodinma promised that the perpetrators will be brought to book, he, therefore, called on the people of the Local Government Area, to cooperate with the authorities. He added that his government will not encourage the new approach to banditry in Imo State. He said it is banditry, for the unknown gunmen to attack the hall where the monarchs were having their normal meeting. The governor disclosed that the incident will be taken seriously, and his administration will go through all lengths to punish the perpetrators.

He described the incident as a serious offense, which he said will never happen again, and that the criminals will not go unpunished. Governor Hope Uzodinma was right to have described the incident as a desecration of sacred stool. This is because, in Igbo land, a high level of respect is placed on monarchs. Disrespecting monarchs is considered taboo. The criminal group went to a great length to have attacked the monarchs.

The Governor should keep to his promise of ensuring the perpetrators, of the unfortunate incident do not go unpunished. This is also a wake-up call to the people of the state, that it is high time they cooperate with the appropriate authorities to bring these criminals to pay for their crimes.
