The main reason why president Buhari approved the Steering Committee was to ensure the effectiveness and timely implementation of the PIA (Petroleum Industry Act), which was signed into law on Monday.
In my opinion, President Muhammadu Buhari approved the Steering Committee to ensure that the newly signed Petroleum Bill is effectively carried out on time. The newly signed Petroleum Bill was signed in order to improve the industrialisation of the country, which will lead to massive development in Nigeria.
It was noted that the Committee had been given a duration of 12 months to carry out the assignment.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) will be transformed into a private organisation in the next six months. This is in line with the newly signed Petroleum Industry Act.
