The Chairman of Medical Advisory Committee on COVID-19 in the state, Dr. Femi Oladiji, revealed this on Saturday at the state’s quarantine center in Ilorin where the suspects were held.

He said that the operation was directed by the state Deputy Governor and Chairman of the Technical Committee on COVID-19, Mr. Kayode Alabi.

At about 1:00 am, we got the news that some individuals were clubbing at Kwara Hotel.

“The deputy governor, in my accompany and some safety officials, invaded the club and we caught several boys and girls within the age span of 20 to 30,” Oladiji was quoted as indicating in a message by Rafiu Ajakaye, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor and spokesman for the technical council.

He added, “At about 2:00 am, we took them to the Hajj center (Quarantine Centre). We made them relaxed throughout the night, and first thing this morning, we collected their samples for COVID-19.

“The arrest, which may later result in a trial, is to deliver the warning that we cannot condone such behavior. Breaches will henceforth become a powerful reaction from the government.”

The commissioner affirmed that the prohibition on nightclubbing stayed in force to avoid the more reach of the infection in the state.

He insisted that the activity of the clubbers disobeyed the Kwara State Infectious Diseases Regulations, 2020, as well as the government’s existing prohibition on a group of people beyond 20.

Oladiji, still, pointed out that this excluded areas of worship where preventive restrictions have been put in place in coalition with religious rulers.

According to him, the government is assessing other standards, involving enforcement of the use of face mask in public to reduce the angle of transmission of the virus.

“The government will take proper efforts against any officers of the motel found to have allowed the breach of the current prohibition to deliver the reminder that such behavior will not be condoned,” the commissioner concluded.
