Restoring Normalcy In The South Before Next Elections Is Paramount

The southern part of the country is a strategic region that has huge influence and capabilities to change the economic and political dynamic of the country. It is unfortunate that this very region is witnessing major security challenges as a result of incessant attacks by unknown gunmen, violent agitators and other criminal groups. It is paramount and of uttermost importance that the security of lives and properties of people is ensured by the security forces before the country's forthcoming general election. The core responsibility of government is providing the avenue for peace, security and peace to thrive.

As of this moment, the Nigerian government has deployed a special tactical command comprised of professional personnel from various security departments in the country. The security forces have the mandate to restore normalcy and tackle the violent activities of the unknown gunmen who continues to wreak havoc on the economic growth and stability of the southeastern region of the country. Notorious commanders of the proscribed organisation such as Mr Onye Army, Ikonso etc were apprehended or neutralised by the security forces.

Camps, training centres, logistics and hideouts were discovered and destroyed. But up till this moment, the hoodlums continue to attack security formations and outposts across the region. This is costing the government significant loss. The continuous attack on security formations may affect security operations in the region. The people must rally behind the troops and support them in order to discharge their duties effectively. Vigilantes should report suspicious persons, places or behaviour that may trigger social unrest.

Therefore, there is a need for the Nigerian security forces to improve their efforts and approaches regarding the security challenges being faced in the southeastern region of the country. People should never be frightened into sitting at home by the proscribed organisation. The alleged Sit-At-Home order that is usually imposed by the proscribed group has affected the local businesses of people.
