Bayo Onanuga, a prominent newspaper chief executive and director of media and publicity for the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign, has taken to Twitter to celebrate the dismissal of a suit filed against President-Elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President-Elect Kashim Shettima by the People's Democratic Party.

On Friday, a five-member panel of the Supreme Court held that the PDP lacked the authority to institute the suit, which sought to disqualify the two men over Shettima's alleged double nomination. With the final obstacle removed, Tinubu and Shettima are set to be inaugurated on Monday, and Onanuga has called on "other Democrats" to join the celebration.

Interestingly, Onanuga frames the decision as a "re-enactment of what would have been in 1993." This is likely a reference to the annulled presidential election of that year, which is widely regarded as an important moment in Nigeria's democratic history.

The suggestion seems to be that Tinubu's victory represents a return to the democratic ideals that were thwarted in 1993. Whether or not one agrees with this assessment, it's clear that Onanuga sees the ruling as a decisive victory for the Tinubu/Shettima camp, and a cause for celebration among supporters of Nigerian democracy.
