Kaugama People: What They Are Known For In Jigawa State

Kaugama is a Local Government Area in the north of Jigawa State , Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the town of Kaugama. It has an area of 883 km 2 and a population of 127,956 at the 2006 census. The postal code of the area is 730.

The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Kaugama with the LGA consisting of several towns and villages such as Dakayawa, Hadin, Yalo, Kaugama, Marki, Dabora, Jarkasa, and Garin Gabas. The estimated population of Kaugama LGA is put at 174,563 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Hausa and the Fulani ethnic groups.

Kaugama Local Government Area is sited in Kaugama town and the area council comprises of Arbus, Kaugama, Askandu, Yalo, Marke, Jarkasa, Ja'e, Hadin, Unguwar Jibin, Dakaiyawa and Dabuwaran.

Agriculture is an important part of the economic activities in Kaugama LGA with a number of crops grown in the area. A number of animals such as cows, camels, and rams are also reared in the LGA. Fishing is another key feature of the economic life of Kaugama LGA with the area hosting the popular Dingare fishing settlement. 

Kaugama is one of the serving twenty-seven local government areas located in the north-east corner of Jigawa state senatorial zone with its capital administrative headquarters in the Kaugama town, thus forming a federal constituency together with Malam Madori local government areas.
