Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, a two-term Governor of Kano State and Senator representing Kano Central has been at loggerhead with the Governor of the State, Abdullahi Ganduje.

Ganduje and Shekarau have been fighting to control the structure of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Kano State.

Recall that Shekarau first raised an alarm and alleged that Governor Ganduje has sidelined him after he helped the Governor to win his second term bid.

Shekarau and other aggrieved APC bigwigs in Kano went further to petition the National Secretariat of APC and called on the party leadership to cancel the earlier wards and local governments congresses. In the petition, Shekarau revealed that the Kano State Governor has sidelined them from the affairs of the party.

Shekarau and his faction popularly known as G-7 went further to hold parallel Congress on Saturday and elected Ahmadu Haruna Danzago as the factional chairman of APC in Kano State.

On the other hand, the faction loyal to Governor Ganduje elected Abdullahi Abbas as the Chairman of APC in Kano State.

According to a report by Daily Trust, the crisis between Shekarau and Ganduje over the control of APC structure in Kano State took a different turn on Tuesday when Senator Shekarau unveiled his factional chairman, Ahmadu Haruna Danzago, as the newly elected APC chairman in Kano State.

While the faction loyal to Ganduje claimed their executives are authentic, Shekara G-7 faction also claimed that their newly elected executives are the real APC executives in Kano State.

Why APC Leadership Needs To Act Fast

The leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress needs to act fast to resolve the ongoing internal crisis in Kano State.

Remember that Kano State produced the highest votes in the 2015 and 2019 presidential elections. The state is important to the ruling party and the leadership of APC cannot afford to lose the state to PDP.

If the crisis is not well managed, it might lead to defection which might affect the ruling party in 2023.

Recall that a similar thing had happened before in Kano State when the faceoff between Ganduje and the immediate past Governor of the State, Rabiu Kwankwaso worsened which eventually made Kwankwaso to decamp to PDP in 2018.
