President Muhammadu Buhari should avoid two different political mistakes as he is about to step aside from the presidential office in the year 2023. Some people have been expecting President Muhammadu Buhari to take some steps ahead of the incoming presidential election, but President Muhammadu Buhari has been so calm about his decisions with the ruling party ahead of the upcoming presidential election. The success of the All Progressive Congress (APC) can be affected if he makes some political mistakes.
1. Endorsing A Northerner As His Successor

The first political mistake that President Muhammadu Buhari should avoid is the endorsement of a northern politician ahead of the incoming presidential election. Whenever incumbent officeholders want to leave political offices, they usually endorse another set of people that will replace the office. People will be expecting President Muhammadu Buhari to endorse a politician that will replace him in the presidential office, and he should be careful with the person he is going to endorse.

All southern governors have decided to produce the next president of the country, and the northerners are also expected to respect their decisions. However, the Northern Governors' Forum (NGF) has rejected the request made by the southern governors to produce the next president of the country. President Muhammadu Buhari should not involve himself in this struggle, and he should not make any mistake of endorsing a northerner as his successor.
2. Joining The Zoning System Committee

The other mistake that President Muhammadu Buhari can unconsciously make is to include himself in the committee that will work on the zoning system of the All Progressive Congress (APC). The decision of the committee is the final and other members of the party have to accept it without further discussions. If the committee deems it fit to zone the presidential ticket of the party to the north, people are going to blame President Muhammadu Buhari for the decision.

This decision can also enrage some top members of the ruling party to vacate the party ahead of the upcoming presidential election. President Muhammadu Buhari should exempt himself from the zoning committee of the party. He should not comment on the decision of the party till after the incoming presidential election. Whatever he says may have effects on the performance of the party in the forthcoming presidential election. He should avoid the two political mistakes stated above.
