Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi Ilufemiloye Telu is the 16th person to become the Oluwo of Iwo, he became the king of Iwo land in 2015, since then a lot of controversies have surrounded his style of kingship, like allowing his wife to wear a crown like a king even though traditionally in Iwo land, a queen does not normally wear a crown, he dismissed all the criticisms towards his kingship, saying that he is a modern day king and the people against his actions don't know their cultural history well.
Recently in a statement by his press secretary, the Oluwo of Iwo said that he wants to task the federal government to outrightly ban the importation of foreign jeans into Nigeria and promote local jeans made of Ofi (a local fabric) to aid job opportunities and advantages.
He noted that these local fabrics like Ofi and Aso Oke could be used to make all the western clothing styles that young people have gotten accustomed to, they could also be used to make suits and other office, school and religious wears.
Some Nigerian people have negative responses and reactions to his claim that local fabrics could serve the same purpose as western fabrics like denim, wool, silk, cashmere, etc. Checkout some reactions that people had to his claim.
