Why The Recognition Of Governors Congress In States Will Bring About Unity In APC

When there is infighting in any political party, they will be divided, a divided political party means weakness and weaknesses means less vote for the political party, which will eventually lose when it faces another political party in an election. That is what happens in the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday when the party held state congresses elections across Nigeria. They were divided and each factions in some States held parallel congresses.

About five (5) States held parallel congresses, where factions in the party elected different people as their executives in the party. This happened in Osun, Kwara, Lagos, Kano, and Ogun. In most of the states mentioned above, the parallel congress even turned to violence, where political stakeholders were shot by hoodlums and several vehicles were destroyed. Although the national executives of the party have waded into the issue of parallel congresses in the State and have concluded that it is only the factions supported by the governors that will be backed by the national executives.

According to a report by Punch, a national party executive who does not want his name to be mentioned said, that the National caucus will recognize executive councils supported by incumbent governors in the APC states and non-APC states, the party would recognize congresses endorsed by the highest political office holders in such states.

This is a good step forward for the party to resolve the crisis in the party. But the party national caucus should not forget to compensate the aggrieved members or factions that held parallel congresses against the wish of the governors so that they will be united and battle for the 2023 general election. APC should know that no divided party can defeat a strong opponent in any State and come together as one to support a candidate.
