Presidential media aide, Malam Garba Shehu has appealed to the Governors of the 36 States of the Federation to provide land for ranching.
The outspoken media aide made the appeal while reacting to the controversial editorial of The Economist, a London-based newspaper.
Two important reasons why Governors of the 36 States of the federation should provide land for ranching for the Fulani herdsmen :
1. Providing lands for ranching will solve the herder-farmer clashes because there will be no longer be an open grazing system where herders take their cows to farmland for grazing.
Governors providing lands for ranching will be a suitable solution to end the conflicts between host communities and the Fulani herdsmen. In fairness, If Southern Governors can ban open-grazing in their states then they should be able to provide land for ranching.
2. Production of healthier animals for consumption :
It has been observed that cattle raised through the ranching system are healthier than the ones raised through the open-grazing system.
Many developed countries like the United States of America have adopted the ranching system for a very long time and it has helped them in providing healthy animals for human consumption.
