Ahead of the general elections in 2023, politicians who intend contesting for the office of the president have begun to make strategic moves to actualize their ambitions.

Though many political analysts see the 2023 presidential election as contest between presidential aspirants of the two major political parties in the country, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressive Congress (APC); there are other presidential aspirants who don’t belong to these two major parties, who have retained hope that they have what it takes to lead the country.

According to the Punch, a former presidential candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) in the 2019 election, Kingsley Moghalu, has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to actualize his 2023 presidential ambition on the platform of the party. Mr Moghalu came a distant 14th in the 2019 elections which President Muhammadu Buhari won. He polled a total votes of 26, 039.

A former deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Moghalu has held leadership positions across the globe and has contributed to the developments of nations.

He often uses his social media accounts to make meaningful contribution to key national issues and how they can be resolved.

After joining the ADC, the question on lips of many Nigerians is, will he be able to actualize his presidential ambition on the party’s platform?

Considering the solid structure the PDP and the APC has built over the years, the simple answer to this is NO in my opinion. Though, I think Mr Moghalu has the capacity to lead the country, he however needs a political party with a solid structure at the grassroots level, all over the country to actualize his ambition.

The ADC do not yet have a solid structure across the country to challenge the political establishment of the PDP and APC in my opinion. Nigerians would however be delighted if the ADC and other minor political parties can come together and form a third force that has the capacity to challenge the political establishment of the PDP and the APC at the 2023 general elections.
