OPINION: 2 Reasons Why Buhari May Back Osibanjo To Be His Successor In 2023

According to the special adviser to the president on political matters, Babafemi Ojudu as reported by the Punch news, president Muhammadu Buhari would handover to an apostle of his, who would build on his achievements and legacies in 2023. In line with the above, president Buhari may likely back the vice president, Yemi Osibanjo to be his successor despite the speculations of Tinubu, Amaechi and Fayemi being the obvious possible favorites in 2023.

Nevertheless, why would the president likely back Osibanjo in 2023? See these two reasons below;

1. As vice president, Osibanjo understands Buhari's plans, vision and will be more likely to consolidate on them in the future

Having been with the president since 2015, Osibanjo certainly would have understood the plans and visions the president have for the nation. In fact, the vice president has continued to handle key duties within the Buhari administration. Judging from this, president Muhammadu Buhari may likely favor him above others, who may not fully understand what his administration is all about. Certainly, with his knowledge and the experience gained under the president, Osibanjo could build on and act as a continuum of the Buhari administration's legacies.

2. Osibanjo's loyalty may also make Buhari to trust him as his successor in 2023

Unlike what happened between president Obasanjo and his vice president, Atiku before the ending of their administration in 2007, Osibanjo has been largely loyal to the president since 2015. This loyalty may likely make president Buhari to trust him as his successor in 2023. Also, Osibanjo's loyalty may convince the president, that he will not deviate from or abandon many projects started by his (Buhari) administration. However, although Osibanjo may be particularly suitable to succeed the president, it is yet to be seen whether, APC will look in his direction as a potential candidate for the 2023 poll.

Nevertheless, do you see president Muhammadu Buhari backing Osibanjo to be his successor in 2023?
