Remarkably, former vice president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, is one of the major members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who are being considered to vie for the presidential ticket of the opposition party in 2023.

Noticeably, former vice president Atiku Abubakar is a prominent, viable and popular politician whose presidential candidature can, reliably, maximize the chances of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to pose threat at the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 presidential elections.

However, there are two major points that may, surely, jeopardize the chances of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to emerge as the presidential candidate of the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the 2023 general elections.

It could be recalled that some leaders and members of the Nation Executive Committee (NEC) of the main opposition party in Nigeria, People Democratic Party (PDP), met on Thursday to ratify the recommendations of the Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi-led Zoning Committee.

The Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi-led Zoning Committee had recommended that the national chairmanship position of the party should be, considerably, be zoned to North.

Interestingly, there is a political principle that is being respected by major political parties in Nigeria. The principle of zoning presidential ticket and national chairmanship position of a political party to different sections of the country may, sincerely, stop Atiku Abubakar from picking the presidential ticket of the party.

Secondly, the unity within the Southern Governors' Forum and the seriousness with which the forum is agitating for power rotation to South, irrespective of political party, could be considered as a great threat to the emergence of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Surely, the Southern Governors' Forum may continue to register their agitation for power shift to the southern part of Nigeria, this may hinder the chances of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to, truly, consider North in the course of picking her presidential ticket in 2023.

Sincerely, Southern Governors' Forum is not showing any sign of reneging from the demand for power shift to the South. This may definitely jeopardize the chances of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to become the presidential candidate of the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023.
