Opinion: Impeaching President Buhari would not solve Nigeria's many problems

Over the past 2 months due to the ever increasing rate of crime and abductions in the country, there have been calls for the impeachment of president Muhammadu Buhari. While I am trying to wrap my head around this situation, I would like to state that impeaching the president now would not solve the many problems of the country, but wold rather compound them as the north would interpret is as an attack on their path and would be dancing towards a civil war.

Despite the calls for Buhari's impeachment by the Northern elders forum over his inability to address and bring the insecurity challenges in the country to a close, the solutions would not just come because the president is gone or impeached. First of all we must understand that the president did not start the chaos, so his removal is no automatic guarantee that things would be better. Second if the president is impeached, then prof Yemi Osinbajo takes up his position as president and the problem would still not be solved, as the vice president is equally as clueless in solving these massive security challenges (in case you are arguing, if prof Osibanjo knew the solutions he would have suggested it long ago while in his office as the vice president).

The only way we can get the security and protection we all desire is if we support the government by providing useful information on suspicious activities around your area to the appropriate authorities. The president's tenure would expire in the year 2023, there is no need to impeach him now when he is almost getting to the end of the 8 year race. Your comments and suggestions are very much welcomed on this opinionated article.
