1. Akpabio to lawmakers: Most NDDC contracts awarded to you

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, has alleged that most of the contracts of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) were awarded to the National Assembly members, Daily Trust reports.

The minister, in Abuja yesterday, said this to the House of Representatives Committee on NDDC investigating financial mismanagement in the NDDC.


Akpabio debunked the allegations by a former Managing Director of the NDDC, Joi Nunei, that he approved N10bn for her to share to contractors.


He also said N2.5bn for the forensic audit exercise was included in the 2019 budget of the agency.


2. Oshiomhole angry Obaseki didn’t allow him become godfather – Osagie

The Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr Crusoe Osagie, has said the ex - national chairman of the All Progressives Congress , Adams Oshiomhole , is disappointed because Governor Godwin Obaseki refused to be used in his quest to become a godfather in the state .

Osagie, in a statement on Monday , said the vituperation by Oshiomhole was just an expression of his frustration over his failure to achieve his goal to govern Edo State for a third term using Obaseki as a proxy .


He said in 2016 when Oshiomhole nominated and supported Obaseki , his hidden motive was to use Governor Obaseki, who he thought would be a pawn in his game to defraud Edo people and enthrone himself as the ultimate godfather of Edo politics, at the expense of the will and wishes of Edo people.


3.Akeredolu beats seven contenders, wins APC ticket for Oct poll

The Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu , has emerged the candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the October 10 governorship election in the state .

In the result declared around 12:25 am , Akeredolu won in all the local government areas of the state , defeating other seven contestants .


In the result, Akeredolu polled 2,458 votes , while Chief Olusola Oke came second , having scored 262 votes . Mr Isaac Kekemeke came third after polling 19 votes.


No fewer than eight aspirants finally contested for the ticket of the party after three aspirants stepped down for Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.


4. Fani Kayode bags traditional title in Zamfara

The Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has been conferred with the traditional title of “Sadaukin Shinkafi” by Shinkafi Emirate Council in Zamfara.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Emir of Shinkafi, Alhaji Muhammad Makwashe and made available to newsmen in Gusau on Monday.


Makwashe said that the tittle was conferred on the former minister following his support and contributions to the development of Shinkafi emirate.


Fani-Kayode, at a news briefing in Gusau, commended the emirate and promised to continue to maintain good relationship with Zamfara and core Northern states.


5. Abia jailbreak: Police begin manhunt for 9 escapees

The Police in Abia have begun manhunt for the remaining nine of the 29 criminal suspects that escaped from police cell in Umuahia on Saturday.

SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, the Police Public Relations Officer for Abia Command, confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday that 29 detainees escaped from the Umuahia Central Police Station’s cell after overpowering the guard on duty.


Narrating the incident, Ogbonna said that one of the detainees had appealed to the guard (name withheld) to assist him with water to flush the toilet.


He added that as soon as the guard brought the water and opened the iron bar, the suspects rushed out, overpowered him and took to their heels.
