Court Rejects Abba Kyari’s Request For Bail

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has dismissed an appeal by suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari.

The appeal sought the reversal of an earlier ruling of a Federal High Court in Abuja which refused to grant his request for bail.

Maintaining that Kyari’s appeal was without merit, Justice Stephen Adah who read the unanimous judgement of a three-man panel, held that given the nature of the charges pending against Kyari and others before the trial court, such requests for bail needed to be handled with caution.

Adeleke Warns Against Electoral Violence

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has warned against electoral violence, warning that security agencies had been instructed to clamp down on hoodlums in the state.

Adeleke then called on residents of the state to be peaceful duringt Saturday’s general elections.

In a pre-election statement obtained in Osogbo personally signed by him, Adeleke described the poll as, “a critical milestone in national democratic development of Nigeria in which all eligible citizens must actively participate to decide the future of the nation.”

Adeleke said as citizens, residents of Osun should participate in the electioneering process to secure good governance for the present and future generation.

No cause for alarm over poll postponement – Nnamani

Enugu East Senator, Chimaroke Nnamani, has stated that there is no cause for alarm over the postponement of the Enugu East Senatorial District election following the gruesome murder of the Labour Party senatorial candidate, Oyibo Chukwu, and five others.

The PUNCH had reported that Chukwu, a former chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, was killed and set ablaze at Amechi-Awkunanaw in Enugu South Local Government Area on Wednesday after gunmen opened fire on his convoy during an ambush.

His personal assistant also died in the incident.

Following the development, the Independent National Electoral Commission in Abuja on Friday announced that the Enugu East senatorial election which was scheduled to hold this Saturday will now be held on March 11 alongside the governorship polls.

Abia APC denies suspension of Senator Kalu

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has denied suspension of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, saying that the purported report was fake.

Kalu, who is the former governor of Abia State and currently the Chief Whip of the Senate, was on Friday reported to have been suspended by the Abia State chapter of the APC.

Reacting to the report, the spokesperson of the Abia State APC, Hon. Okey Ezeala described it as the handiwork of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to cause confusion a few hours before the elections.

The APC said it clearly distanced itself from the report, insisting that Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North senatorial district, remains the party’s candidate in the Saturday election.

FG directs full implementation of new visa policy for US citizens

The Federal Government has directed the full implementation of a new visa reciprocity policy for United States of American (USA) citizens with effect from March 1, 2023.

The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, said the directive was issued following approval for the implementation of the new Bilateral Consular Policy Agreements between the two governments.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari launched the new Nigeria Visa Policy in 2020.

He added that the policy amongst other things seeks to promote tourism and boost cultural exchange and business between both nations.
