Mixed Reactions As FG Makes New Announcement On School Resumption

Recall that on the 21st of December, 2020 the federal government of Nigeria ordered the closure of schools across the country until January 18th 2021 due to the second wave of coronavirus pandemic.

According to the chairman of the Presidential Task Force On Covid-19, Boss Mustapha, the closure of schools across the country was to allow the coronavirus preventive measures to take place in learning centers.

Earlier this week, the Presidential Task Force on (PTF) Covid-19 announced that it would review the resumption date for schools across the country following the increase in coronavirus cases in Nigeria.

Despite the second wave of coronavirus pandemic in the country, On Thursday 14th of January, 2021 channel Televion reported that the Federal government of Nigeria has officially announced that January 18th, resumption date for schools across the country remains intact.

This announcement was released on Thursday by Ben Bem Goong, the Director, Press and Public relations to the federal ministry of education.

Ben Goong disclosed that after extensive consultations with stakeholders, the census of opinion is that 18th of January 2021 still remain the resumption date for schools across the country.

Ben Goong also urged all schools, and parents to ensure strict adherence to Covid-19 guidelines, adding that the measures are to ensure safe reopening of schools for academic activities.
