Suspense as Powerful Kano Emir is Reported Dead

On Wednesday, September 22, Kano state's Gaya district lost its emir, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulkadir.

Until 2019, Late Abdulkadir was the district head of Kunchi and then Minjibir before being elevated to the position of emir.

At the moment, no information about the monarch's death is available to local media outlets.

Kano, Gaya - On Wednesday, September 22, the Daily Trust published a disturbing report claiming that Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulkadir, the Emir of Gaya in Kano state, had died.

Abdulkadir died on Wednesday, according to a source who declined to comment further.

Muhd Mukhtarr Danfillo, the senior special assistant to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, also announced the development on social media, via Facebook.

According to Punch, a presidential media aide, Bashir Ahmad, confirmed the monarch's demise:

“As announced by Abubakar Aminu Ibrahim, the SSA on New Media to the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Abdulkadir, our Amir, the Emir of Gaya Emirate, has died, ‘Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji'un! The Emir was a great leader; he was born in 1930, 91 years ago, and had reigned for over 30 years.

“May Allah (SWT) accept his good deeds, grant him Jannah Al-Firdaus, and give his family and the entire Gaya Emirate the strength to bear this great loss. Ameen!”

Gaya is one of Kano's five emirates. Before being elevated to the position of Emir in 2019, the deceased served as the district head of Kunchi and then Minjibir.
