'Stop Arresting Your Critics' - Islamic Group Cautions Turkey President Ahead Of Nigeria Visit

A Nigeria-based Islamic group, Muslim Rights Concerned (MURIC) has cautioned Turkey President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan over the alleged prosecution of opposition leaders and critics in his native country, Turkey.

The warning was issued by the group ahead of Erdogan's visit to Nigeria on Monday, October 18.

MURIC, in a statement signed by its Founder and Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola accused the Turkish leader of political killings, unprovoked arrest, torture, extended imprisonment of opposition leaders and critics, especially members of the Hizmet Movement.

The group expressed its displeasure at Erdogan's visit to Nigeria over what it described as his undemocratic and tyrannical practices back home in Turkey.

Apart from alleging that he jailed thousands of critics and opposition leaders, MURIC also accused the Turkey President of fabricating a false coup in 2016, which enabled him to make changes to the country's constitution, further tightening his grip on Turkey's presidency in the process.

Professor Akintola alleged that Erdogan, who will be arriving the country later on Monday to sign some deals with the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government, uses Turkish diplomats in Nigeria to haunt for members of the Hizmet Movement who are rendering humanitarian services in the country.
