For about two weeks now, the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has been in the process of zoning internal offices in the party as they prepare for the general elections coming up in 2023.
Part of the offices that have been zoned to the southeast region is the office of the National secretary.

After the meeting held in Enugu last week, Senator Anyanwu, from Imo state was presented as the consensus candidate from the region by the Governors of Enugu, Abia, and other PDP stakeholders who were present at the meeting.
Note that the PDP controls only the two states of Abia and Enugu in the south east region
This position, however, has been allegedly rejected by the former governor of Anambra state and the former presidential running mate of the party in the 2019 elections, Mr. Peter Obi, Chief Madu Chinemerem, a former official of the PDP from Imo State, Chief Achike Udenwa and other southeast political stakeholders.

Earlier on, the name of Former Imo Governor, Emeka Ihedioha was added to the list of stakeholders who rejected Anyanwu's candidacy but Ihedioha has dispelled the rumours and extended a hand of fellowship to the southeast consensus candidate, Senator Anyanwu.
From recent developments, it appears the PDP governors forum has ratified the candidacy of Senator Anyanwu amid complaints by Peter Obi and other PDP members. and this will definitely create issues in the southeast chapter of the party as these other party members may feel disenfranchised.

This development will definitely send rattles in the camp of Obi seeing there is the possibility of his selection as a likely candidate should the party zone the presidency to the southeast.
The action of the PDP governors may seem they want to be in charge of the whole process of getting candidates into the respective positions and this may be detrimental to the party as other stakeholders may have their voices silenced as they don't have a representative in the EXCO.
From this development, the PDP governors are trying to solidify their control over the party by ratifying the appointment of party executives who of course, will be loyal to them as the party is seriously bent on taking over power from the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.
As the region is aiming to clinch the presidential ticket, it is also wise to avoid any forms of destabilization within the party ranks as the party prepares for the 2023 general elections
