Prior to the 2019 general elections, talks for the 2023 elections were already in top gear, with notable and prominent politicians vying for the post of the number one citizen of Nigeria. This was followed by talks of rotating the presidency among the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria,of which the South stands out as the likely zone for 2023 presidency. Notwithstanding, many politicians have indicated interest for the race of presidency come 2023,and notable among them are two politicians; Bola Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress (APC),and Atiku Abubakar of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).
Tinubu have the privilege of being in the ruling party and being a close ally of the president, Muhammadu Buhari. Tinubu has all it takes to be the next president of Nigeria, ranging from his experience in office and his influence in the political circle. But for some reasons, the former Lagos state governor is NOT what Nigeria really needs in 2023.
With a few years to the end of President Muhammadu Buhari's second term tenure, competitions are riff and endorsement of candidates will commence in no distant time. What Nigeria needs to do is to support the South as body to emerge successful in the forthcoming 2023 elections. It could be the South-East, South-West or the South-South,it doesn't matter. What matters is that the South gets a candidate that will put Nigeria first before any other person,a selfless and trustworthy leader that will take us back to our previous glory.
Nigeria have over-emphasized the need for experienced leaders, and it is about time we did something about it. 2023 is just the right time to give the young people a chance to take a shot at the post of the presidency. After all, Governor Yahaya Bello is bearing Kogi state on his young shoulders, and the state have been progressing rapidly. We should try it with the presidency, and see how it turns out.
With Nigeria battling corruption in high places, prices of commodities skyrocketing, the Naira falling everyday, insecurity quadrupling and the masses getting wary of waiting for a miracle, Tinubu is certainly not that saviour who could bring about this miracle.
There are countless other qualified candidates the South have to offer, and 2023 is just ripe for it.
With this type of problems bedeviling Nigerians, what we need is a vibrant leader that will pull us out of the mess we found ourselves, and Tinubu falls short of the kind of candidate required.
What Nigeria needs in 2023 is a saviour; a saviour who would bring about a realistic solutions to the problems facing Nigerians. What we need are vibrant leaders ready to face the challenge of leadership in Nigeria. Tinubu could make a good candidate, but the times are bad to start gambling with the future of our dear nation. The issues facing Nigeria needs a right leader to tackle, and we can't place our hopes on assumptions of good candidates who are not from the South.
Let's join hands together and find a leader who like Moses, would lead us to the Nigeria if our dream. Let the South unite and face 2023 with solid determination to win.
