Ondo Primary: APC Appoints Yahaya Bello As Committee Chairman
Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has been appointed by the All Progressives Congress as the chairman of the Ondo State Governorship Primary Election Committee.
The development was disclosed in a statement released by the party’s Deputy spokesperson, Yekini Nabena, and titled, “Governor Yahaya Bello Heads Ondo State APC Governorship Primary Election Committee.”
The statement read in part, “Ahead of the All Progressives Congress Ondo State Governorship Primary Election slated for July 20, 2020, the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker/Extra-ordinary National Convention Planning Committee has constituted Primary Election and Appeal Committees.”
2. Ekiti: Churches, Mosques Without Preventive Facilities Won’t Reopen – Commissioner
The Ekiti State Government, on Thursday, noted that religious centres in the state without prevention facilities would not be allowed to reopen after three and half months of closure due to the outbreak of Coronavirus.
Governor Kayode Fayemi noted that religious centres must adhere to the guidelines put in place to curb the spread of the virus.
The State Governor had earlier stated that all churches and mosques in the state can commence operation on July 17 after the lockdown across the country
3. Drama As Acting NDDC MD, Pondei Storms Out of Reps Meeting
Prof Kemebradikumo Pondei, acting Managing Director of Interim Management Committee (IMC) the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has walked out on the House of Representatives Committee on NDDC.
Pondei who walked out with his team on Thursday stated that they were not prepared to make any presentation before the House of Reps Committee.
The acting NDDC boss had kicked against the Chairman of the Committee, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, presiding over the investigative hearing.
4. Military Air Strikes destroys Boko Haram Terrorists Camp, neutralizes many fighters in Borno
The Military said on Thursday that in continuation of the sustained offensive against terrorist elements in the North-East of the Country, the Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole on Wednesday, 15 July 2020, destroyed a Boko Haram Terrorists’ (BHTs’) Camp and neutralized several of their fighters in massive air strikes executed at Ngwuri Gana along the Gulumba Gana – Kumshe axis in the Northern part of Borno State.
The Military noted that the operation was carried out on the heels of Human Intelligence reports indicating that the settlement was one of the locations from where the BHTs launch attacks against own troops’ positions and villages around the general area of Kumshe.
Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Major General John Enenche while giving details said, ‘Aerial surveillance missions also confirmed the heavy presence of a large number of BHTs in the settlement, some of whom were seen slinging their rifles.
5. Rivers APC: Again, court affirms Aguma as caretaker boss
Again, a High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has reaffirmed former Reps member, Igo Aguma, as Caretake Chairman of divided Rivers state All Progressives Congress (APC), nullifying his recent displacement by co-statutory members who form the state Caretaker Committee.
Justice M.O. Chukwu in a suit filed by Golden Chioma, a party stalwart, restrained Sen Andrew Uchendu and Sokonte Davies from parading selves as leaders of Rivers APC.
Sen Uchendu, it would be recalled, convened the meeting of statutory members who suspended Aguma as Caretaker boss barely a couple of weeks after a Rivers State High Court first declared him Caretaker boss while Sokonte Davies emerged parallel Chairman at the Uchendu convened meeting.
6. El-Rufai advises Southern Kaduna to embrace peace, enjoy development
Governor Nasiru Ahmad El-Rufai of Kaduna state has appealed to elected officials and traditional rulers not to shy away from taking up the leadership roles in their communities.
The governor who gave the advice at a stakeholders’ meeting, told the political and traditional authorities of Zangon Kataf and Kauru local government areas not to abdicate their responsibilities.
El-Rufai assured the stakeholders that the Kaduna State Government will uphold the right of every citizen to live in peace and harmony.
He also called on the communities to expose and report the few that engage in the incitement and violent actions that menace and endanger the many.
Responding to the request for firm action against persons using conventional and social media to spread fake news and panic, El Rufai pointed out to them that ceding the narrative of events in the area ‘’to non-formal actors is not helpful to the cause of peace and the rule of law.”
