All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to "stop peddling falsehood in a desperate and despicable attempt to shore up its dwindling political fortunes."
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Chris Azebamwan in Benin, the APC said: "We are saddened by the futile attempt of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, to score a cheap political point in a recent statement that was credited to Chris Nehikhare.
"The PDP statement accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, Edo State of conducting shadow primaries and in the process, infringed the Covid-19 guidelines on crowd control, social distancing and personal hygiene.
"In their usual hysteria and desperation to offer an alternative governance platform to the good people of Edo State, the PDP shot itself in the foot. They failed as usual, to get their facts right and instead, went to town with a twisted version of what really happened.
"As part of our corporate social responsibility, the APC in Edo State organized a forum for well meaning individuals within our fold to put resources together to assist our government and the vulnerable in our society to cope with the challenges of partial lockdown.
"In doing so, we were mindful of the relevant guidelines by the World Health Organization(WHO), the National Taskforce on Covid-19, and Edo State government.
"Since the release of the timetable for the gubernatorial election in Edo State by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, late last year, the APC has not released a subsequent guideline for our Party.
"It is inconceivable therefore, that a so-called shadow primaries would have been conducted by Edo State chapter in flagrant disregard of established protocols.
"We urge the PDP to stop peddling falsehood in a desperate and despicable attempt to shore up its dwindling political fortunes. The people of Edo State are wiser and more discerning than to be taken in by the puerile antics of the PDP.
"For the record, the APC is fully conscious of its social contract with the people of Edo State and will not be swayed or distracted from its avowed determination to provide good leadership and responsible governance to our people.
"The general public and our teeming members and supporters are by this publication, admonished to disregard the release by the PDP, which is characteristic of their usual devices of deception and falsehood.
"For the avoidance of doubt, let me reiterate that Edo APC has not commenced any form of primaries as the National Working Committee hasn’t released any guidelines to that effect."
