Since the easing of the lockdown by the federal government of Nigeria, COVID-19 cases have surged across the country especially in Lagos, FCT, Oyo, Edo, Rivers, Delta, Kano, Ogun, and Kaduna States. Number of confirmed cases in these states currently stands at 25,822.
The rate at which COVID-19 is increasing in these states should be a worrying sign for everyone including the federal government. We cannot sit down and watch COVID-19 destroy our country. If we don't want things to get out of hand, something has to be done very fast.
In my opinion, these states with higher number of COVID-19 cases should be shut down completely in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic to other States with fewer cases.
The federal government should order the total lockdown of gathering centres, such as markets, banks, churches, mosques, soccer viewing centres, shopping malls, etc. in Lagos, FCT, Oyo, Edo, Rivers, Delta, Kano, Ogun, and Kaduna States for two months.
Also, interstate movement into and out of the aforementioned States should be banned by the federal government for the same period of time so as to stem the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
Furthermore, the governments of each of these States should strictly ensure that each and every person residing in their States adhere to the laid down preventive measures established by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), which include washing of hands with soap and sanitizer, wearing face mask, sneezing in the arms joint, and ensuring social distancing.
Hopefully, the proposed measures if established would go a long way in reducing COVID-19 in Lagos, FCT, Edo, Oyo, Rivers, Delta, Kano, Ogun, Kaduna, and other States in the country.
Should lockdown be reactivated in the aforementioned States?
