As the permutations for the presidential ticket between the South and the North in 2023 continue in Nigeria. Many Nigerians have asked the question that can't the eight (8)Southern governors in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) prevail over the Six (6) Northern governors to get the 2023 presidential ticket for the South? They are asking this question because from all indications, it is clear that the PDP is maintaining the 2017 zoning agreement, which zoned the Presidential ticket of the party to the North and the party’s Chairmanship to the South.
It is worth noting that the distribution of the Seventeen (17) southern governors are as follows. All Progressives Congress (APC) is Eight (8) (1 South-South, 2 South East, and 5 South West). Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is Eight (8) (1 South West, 2 South East, 5 South-South) and All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) is 1 in South East (Anambra). Based on this analysis, the Eight (8) in the South should be able to prevail on their northern Six (6) to zone the presidential ticket to the South.
With this analysis, it will amount to a big slight to the entire southerners if the next president after Buhari in 2023 should come from the north. As it is, it is the PDP members from the South that are bent on forcing the presidency on the North. The irony of it all is that the southern political leaders are afraid to attack key PDP leaders from their zone. But the truth is that when it comes to emotional intelligence, cohesiveness, and coordinated interest in politicking in Nigeria, the north is thousands of miles ahead of the South.
Political leaders from the south focus less on the underground work while the political leaders from the north are master planners. Take Mai Mala Buni for instance, he doesn't make noise but he always strikes wonders. That's why it didn't come to some Nigerians as a surprise that the 6 Northern governors outclassed the 9 southern PDP Governors in the party’s choice of Presidential candidate in the upcoming General elections in 2023.
