Today's Headlines: Massive Protest Rocks Edo, Northern Governors Speak on 2023 Presidency

Members of civil society organisations and students on Monday staged a massive protest against the compulsory COVID-19 vaccination policy put in place by the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration.

Armed with placards bearing various inscriptions, the protesters who grounded vehicular and human movements in major points in the metropolis, urged the government to share COVID-19 palliatives, and not vaccines.

Some of the placards bore inscriptions like; “We need security in Edo, not vaccine; We will resist any form of executive rascality; Hunger is killing us, not COVID-19; My body is my right.”

BREAKING: 2023: Rotational Presidency Not Constitutional, Northern Governors Reply Southern Colleagues

The governors of the 19 Northern states have rejected the position of their Southern colleagues that the 2023 presidency should be zoned to the Southern part of the country, arguing that the presidency is a democratic office and not a rotational position.

The Southern governors had in a meeting in July in Lagos State demanded that power must shift to their region.

However, arising from an emergency meeting with Northern traditional rulers at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna, on Monday, the Northern Governors Forum said the region could not be compelled to give up a democratically elected office that could be sought by any person irrespective of where he comes from.

The Senate on Monday declared that all the financial and legal hurdles hindering the smooth take-off of the Mambilla Hydro Electric Power projects had been resolved.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Local Content, Senator Teslim Folarin, stated this while receiving the report of the finance sub-committee of the Mambilla Hydroelectric Power projects.

Dusk-to-dawn curfew begins in Delta community over rising cult clashes

Enforcement of a dusk-to-dawn curfew has begun at Obiaruku, headquarters of Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State, following the rising tension occasioned by cult clashes.

Secretary to Ukwuani Local Government, Mr. Chukwunedum Dafikpaku, confirmed this in a signed Press statement on behalf of the council chairman, Mr. Possible Ajede.

The Local Government scribe stressed that the commencement of the curfew was effective from Sunday night, explaining that it starts each day from 8pm to 6am, until the situation improves to warrant a review.

Former Ogun State governor, Mr Gbenga Daniel, has reiterated his support for restructuring, even as he stressed that sudden fiscal restructuring would cause chaos in the country.
