President Buhari Approves payment of gratuities to 102 Ex-Biafran soldiers

The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has approved the payment of gratuities to the 102 forgiven ex-Biafran soldiers.

This was disclosed by Rt. Major General Bashir Magashi, Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, on Friday.

According to him, the soldiers have been captured for payment of gratuity and other emoluments by the Military Pensions Board as directed by the President.

In his remark at the 2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration in Abuja, Magashi noted that the Military Pension Board has finished all the necessary arrangements to commence the payment of gratuity to the 102 former Biafran soldiers whom President Buhari pardoned.

He said, "The war ended 51 years ago and many of those involved are no longer alive, but those with genuine complaints can come forward with their claims for consideration."

Magashi added that payment of gratuity to retired military personnel has no problem. However, its pension board conducts regular verification to avoid payment linkage.
