3 Different Caucuses In PDP That Plan To Gang Up Against Wike To Checkmate His Influence In PDP

The run-up to the October National Convention of the PDP is getting interesting as many PDP bigwigs are strategizing on how to ensure that no one dictates for the party who becomes the next National Chairman of the PDP.

Some PDP members appear to have learned their lessons following the cold war between Governor Wike and the suspended National Chairman of PDP, Prince Uche Secondus.

Also, the report of David Mark reconciliation panel which suggests that Wike is not ready to shield his sword has made some party members believe that time has come for them to show that no single individual owns the PDP.

According to Punch Newspaper, 3 different caucuses plan to gang up and checkmate the influence of Governor Wike in PDP ahead of the October National Convention.

We will be discussing them in this article.

1)Forum of former Ministers

Taminu Turaki who was Minister in Nigeria is leading this forum to organise his colleagues to show adequate interest in the forthcoming national convention of the PDP to prevent what happened in the last two NWCs of the PDP.

2)Forum of Former Members of the House of Representatives

Former Imo State Governor who was sacked by the Supreme Court in January 2020, Emeka Ihedioha is leading this caucus.

The idea is to mobilise themselves and also connect with their colleagues in the 9th House of Representatives to ensure that nobody can force a national chairman of the party again.

3)Forum of Former Governors

This forum appears to be gaining upper hand in PDP as it stands now because one of their own Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola stands a better chance to emerge as the next national chairman of the PDP.

Recall that Aliyu is strongly opposed to Wike's dominance in the PDP and is working to ensure that a South-West politician emerges the next PDP Chairman.

What are the chances of Wike having his way at the October national convention?

Going by the latest development in PDP, Wike's chances of having his way at the October national convention is slim.

All these 3 caucuses mentioned above are against his overbearing influence in PDP which manifests through the PDP Governors' forum.

They are working for the emergence of Oyinlola who Wike appear to have withdrawn his support for and decided to back Dan Orbih. The argument is that though Wike is a major financier of the PDP, he should not always have his way in the party.

Don't forget that Wike made it possible for Uche Secondus and Ali Modu Sheriff to emerge as the PDP national chairmen in 2017 and 2015 respectively.
