Former governor of Zamfara state Sani Yerima has announced his interest in contesting for presidency in 2023. He made his intentions known at a press conference in Abuja where he revealed that he had earlier buried his ambition so as to allow the current president run for the office. He also revealed that he has voluntarily decided to withdraw from senate so as to be eligible to contest.
His announcement sent ripples through social media as Nigerians received the news with mixed reactions. Some Nigerians branded him as the first northern governor to implement the sharia law.
"This man is no different from Buhari, he is the first northern governor to implement Sharia law"
Remember on the 27th January 2000, Sani Yerima who was then the governor of Zamfara state adopted the Sharia law in its entirety. He also created Sharia implementation bodies including the Council of Ulama, Hisbah Commission, Zakkat and Endowment Board, Sharia Research and Development Board, and the Preaching Commission.
