The Ekiti State Government has stated that it will commence the arrest and prosecution of anyone found not wearing facemask in public places within the state, urging residents who don't want to wear the mask to stay home.
The government also said that all those who imported the COVID-19 into the state will be prosecuted. It alledged that despite the lockdown order in existence in the state and the prohibition of inter-state movement, some patients managed to make their way into the state
According to the COVID-19 task force team, the state government has quarantined seven men and three women who came into the state from Kano and Oyo states respectively.
Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr Mojisola Yaya-Kolade while speaking to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday, said the woman who came into the state from Katsina state to visit her husband committed an offence and will be prosecuted.
"Though it was her husband who alerted us, it was an offence against the state and the ministry of Justice will take appropriate action against her at the right time," she said.
The commissioner added that the woman's husband who was the only main contact has been quarantined for 14 days in line with the World Health Organization (WHO's) guidelines.
She said the state governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi is liasing with the federal government for the building of COVID-19 laboratory in the state.
