ABUJA – Reactions have continued to trail Media reports that the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), have zoned the Speakership seat of the 10th House of Representatives to the North West geopolitical zone.

This was even as reports suggest that the North West also got the nod of the President-elect and the party to produce the deputy President of the 10rh Senate.

Rising from its extraordinary emergency meeting on Sunday, the Forum of Former Members of the House of Representatives from the North Central Zone stated that if the the media reports about the said zoning decisions were true, then the President Elected would have allowed himself to be misled by those they described as “selfish” individuals within the party.

The group of former lawmakers who issued 7-point demands in their communique read by Hon. Idris Yakubu, a member of the 4th Assembly after the meeting lamented that the North Central zone was being unfairly treated by the party despite having kept faith with it since 2015.

The document titled: ‘Need for Justice and Equity in Allocating Key Offices In the National Assembly’, the former legislators said: “We wish to state without equivocation, that the issue we are addressing here has been carefully considered and treated with all sense of responsibility, while the position we have taken on the matter is in the best interest of the incoming administration of H.E Sen Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and for the greater good of our dear country, Nigeria.”

President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday vowed that Russian forces would be defeated in Ukraine like Nazi Germany was beaten in World War II, commemorating Victory in Europe Day.

“All the old evil that modern Russia is bringing back will be defeated just as Nazism was defeated,” Zelensky said in a video statement standing in front of a war memorial.

“Just as we destroyed evil together then, we are destroying a similar evil together now,” he added.

His address came on the anniversary of Nazi Germany’s surrender to Allied forces on May 8, 1945, and one day ahead of Victory Day in Moscow, celebrating the Soviet Union’s victory in World War II.

Zelensky said he had submitted a bill to parliament to formally commemorate World War II in Ukraine on May 8 and celebrate Europe Day on May 9, distancing itself further from Moscow.

He said the Kremlin was responsible for “aggression and annexation, occupation and deportation,” as well as “mass murder and torture”.

Former governor of Niger State, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has hit back at those he claimed always attacks the North as parasite for contributing “little” to the commonwealth.

He said such persons should hide their heads in shame now that the region has discovered oil in commercial quantities.

Speaking during the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation 9th Annual Lecture and Awards in Lafia, Nasarawa State, he said such comments were intended to blackmail the North despite being the largest contributor to the country’s economy during the post-independence era.

Aliyu who is the chairman of Board of Trustees of Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation said it was the proceeds from the North’s groundnuts that were used to develop the country’s crude oil which later become the main revenue earner.
