Nigeria's number three citizen, Senate President Ahmad Lawan has caused mixed reactions amongst Nigerians when he exposed those who are actively sponsoring terrorism and insecurity within the country. Ahmad Lawan is a Nigerian senator who is currently serving as the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The Senate President has revealed that the drug barons and dealers are the set of people who are actively sponsoring and funding insurgent groups and armed bandits, so as to cause unrest and insecurity within the country. The Senate President revealed this after the new chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier General Buba Marwa paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.
Ahmad Lawan said, "Nigeria as a country is in one way or the other, a transit route for drugs. Drug peddlers pass their drugs through Nigeria. We believe that this has to stop because the proceeds of such activities fund terrorism, fund banditry. You wonder how the bandits have RPGs and these massive arms that they have. Definitely, these are some acquisition provided by some barons, not the bandits themselves."
The Senate President attributed the current security challenges to drug lords who are extremely wealthy and therefore, seek to cause unrest in the society in order for them to carry out there drug trafficking business.
Nigeria's number three citizen revealed that such drug lords, who engage in trafficking heroin, cannabis and cocaine, have turned Nigeria into a major transit route for carrying out the trade, which he added, was responsible for the rise in criminality in the country.
The Senate President urged the leadership of the NDLEA to restructure the agency so as to further enable it to rise to the occasion of tackling the criminal activities of drug traffickers who are operating in the country.
But if you can recall, the governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle has recently revealed those sponsoring armed banditry in the state. The governor revealed that some power dunk politicians who live in Abuja are the real sponsors of armed banditry. But today, the Senate President has attributed the sponsors of armed banditry and insurgency to drug lords.
