EDO 2020: Can The Power of Incumbency Save Governor Godwin Obaseki From Defeat?

In Nigerian politics, sometimes it is almost an impossible task to defeat an incumbent governor or president in an election. In 2015 general elections, the former president of Nigeria Goodluck Ebele Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) conceded defeat to General Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Since then, it seems like the jinx has been broken, as we have seen other incumbent Governors defeated in elections like in Adamawa, Bauchi, State etc.

As the Edo State Gubernatorial election which is slated to hold on the 19th of September draws near, many, especially the APC said that the incumbency factor won't save Governor Godwin Obaseki who is the candidate of the PDP from defeat in Edo State. From my point of view, I think that the APC has already loss Edo State to the PDP. Governor Godwin Obaseki will do everything possible within his means to ensure that he wins the polls, using the power of incumbency, which include; money, thugs and power to defeat his opponent Ize-Iyamu in the election.

The Edo State governorship election will be totally different from the 2015 general elections where Goodluck Jonathan conceded defeat in other to maintain peace. I know Governor Godwin Obaseki will use all possible means to clinch victory that day. More so, all the remaining South South States are PDP states and stronghold. It will be very difficult for the APC to penetrate. The battle between pastor Ize-Iyamu and Governor Godwin Obaseki will be determine by the Edo People come September 19, 2020, who will vote massive for the PDP.
