One Major Issue APC needs to fix or they may lose Kano to PDP in the Next Gubernatorial Election

2023 is fast approaching, and political parties are trying their best, making the necessary preparation to ensure their candidates win in the next general election. In the northern part of the country, the main tussle is between APC and PDP. APC controls most of the northern states, and they will be looking to maintain and claim the rest of the northern states in 2023.Photo Credit- Buisnessday

Though the All Progressive Congress, controls the largest state in the North, they may lose that power if they don't go down to their drawing board, and address one major issue that may likely be an advantage for the PDP.

The main Issue APC needs to resolve

A common saying goes that, "a house that is divided against itself can not stand". If you're going for a battle, you first of all have to organise your household before approaching the battlefield. Kano's APC is not united, they have two major factions of APC in Kano. While some groups are loyal to the Governor of the State, Abdullahi Ganduje, others are loyal to the former Governor of the state who happens to be a senator, Ibrahim Shekarau

A few days ago, Vanguard reported that a former deputy Governor, Hafiz Abubakar, who served as Ganduje's deputy in his first tenure, pointed out that he has dumped the camp of the Governor for Senator Shekarau's Camp. And I believe they are many other party loyalists who also followed the same direction.

Governor Ganduje is in his second tenure and will vacate the Governor's seat come 2023. As the Governor, it is most likely that the next person who will succeed him in the party will be someone that he has endorsed or has his backings. And Most possible, someone that is from his faction.

If this happens, those who are loyal to Shekarau's faction of the APC will not be very happy with the party, they may not vote for that Candidate or may even decide to decamp to another party.

On the other hand, if the person that wins that Party's ticket is from the Shekarau's faction, those who are loyal to Ganduje may either withhold their vote or equally revamp to another party. Either way, the APC may likely lose some of its members if the factions issue isn't addressed.

The PDP is the next Political rival of APC in the state, and if the house of APC is not organized, it gives them a big advantage to take power from the APC in the forthcoming election.

My advice, the APC National Working Committee needs to wake up, and settle the beef among its members in Kano State before some of them start decamping. Kano has given them a lot of votes during the general election, and if they lose the state to PDP, it might affect them in the Presidential election.
