There are at least five key leaders of the APC who will be instrumental to get rid off the People's Democratic Party (PDP) comes 2023. And if the five leaders work assiduously and painstakingly, the All Progresives Congress may go on to claim all the six states in the zone.
APC caretaker committee chairman Mai Mala Buni
The APC can rely on the Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni for help in that region. He is powerful as a governor and at the same time, he is the current chairman of the caretaker committee put in place to saddle the affairs of the APC pending the election of new members of the National Working Committee (NWC) including an authentic national chairman.

Buni has been doing fantastically well by bringing in more leaders of the PDP. Recently, he presented Dimeji Bankole and Gbenga Daniel to the president, Muhammadu Buhari in the presidential villa, Abuja. Dimeji Bankole was once a speaker of the House of Representatives while Daniel was an Ogun State governor.
Mr. Buni used to be a member of the NWC till he was appointed to lead the APC after the shocking removal of Adams Oshiomole from power by the powerful National Executive Council (NEC) in mid 2020.
Senate President Ahmed Lawan
So, the APC can rest assured of victory in Yobe State. And he will work along with the incumbent president of the Senate, Mr. Ahmed Lawan, who is the number three citizen of Nigeria. He is powerful in his own capacity and he will ensure the APC doesn't wane in its influence.
Prof Babagana Zulum (left) and Bala Mohammed
Apart from Buni and Lawan, the APC can really rely on Mr. Babagana Zulum, Borno State governor. Since 1999 the PDP has never won Borno State gubernatorial election. And he himself became Borno governor in a landslide victory.
Former governor Ali Modu Sheriff
He will continue to work with other APC leaders in Borno State including a former national chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Modu Sheriff. Mr. Sheriff himself was once a governor of the northeastern state for at least eight years.
He joined the APC in 2018 from the same PDP and he has shown interest in becoming the national chairman of the APC. He said that he would contest for the position if it's zoned to his region where Borno State is located.
Apart from Sheriff and Zulum, there are some powerful lawmakers from the zone who would seriously propel the APC to power in the region.
Yakubu Dogara and Muhammadu Buhari
One of them is former speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, from Bauchi State. He left the PDP only in 2020 after (in his words) issues that made him leave the APC (in the first instance) had been solved.

And the main election after his defection was won by the APC. He helped the party to win the bye-election to Bauchi State House of Assembly. It was a contest against Bala Mohammed, the Bauchi State governor, who has been at loggerheads with Dogara.
Apart from Yakubu Dogara, the APC can also trust the capacity of Mr. Elisha Abbo. He is a Senator from Adamawa State and he also joined the APC late last year. He would be one of the top politicians that the APC can look up to for survival in Adamawa State.
