Marketers at Obanipede Market along Kuto road, has lamented that, the naira scarcity across the country has stopped them from participating in the presidential election that was conducted on the 25th of February, 2023.
The marketers who claimed that their polling units were far from their perspective home, claimed that the absence of money stop them from coming out to vote.
A woman whose name is Mrs Bolanle, said " I did not vote but I wish to vote, because where I'm leaving is far from where my polling unit is, I didn't see cash to travel to the place, and based on the current situation in the country I can't risk my life by trekking from Obatonko to Kuto because of voting"
She also lamented that the naira Scarcity has stopped customers from patronizing her.
She said "Throughout last week I sold only two hundred naira goods and this is because people don't have cash, others who tried transfer, were unable to do the transfer"
Alongside, a man who sells shoes, whose name is Okon David, he was unable to vote because he's not an indigene of Ogun state, and due to naira Scarcity he was unable to travel to his state to vote.
He also said" I sell different kind of shoes, but I haven't seen customer who will patronize me since this naira scarcity started, but fortunately for me, I was so lucky to get a customer who was ready to make a transfer of #2500, but due to bank network issues, she didn't make the transfer after waiting for hours in my shop."
After the marketers have expressed themselves, they pleaded with the Government to come to their aid, they pleaded that things aren't easy in the market, people are not patronizing them like before, things are not moving well, that government should please do something about the naira scarcity so that they can all come out to vote in the come Governorship election that will take place on the 11th of March, 2023.
