Mr John Campbell, the former US Ambassador to Nigeria has made it known that Nigeria may never receive both technical and financial assistance from the United States and it's allies against insecurity in the country.
He said that the reason is because the US laws prohibit the American government from providing such assistance to security forces accused of violating human rights.
Campbell has then urged the Nigerian government to bring back the confidence which the public had in the nation's security forces, especially the police.
During the maiden edition which took place on Friday I. Abuja, Campbell had said that the Nigerian government has to put in more effort to gain the people's confidence in the police. He made mention that the other countries can give Nigeria a helping hand in it's fight against insecurity only when this has been done. Bit as the case may be, their hands are tied as the can't help if the security forces of a country are accused of human rights violation. He also spoke against paying ransom to banditsas a solution to theproblem of kidnapping. He said it was illegal bother in the US and in Nigeria.
Another major reason why Nigeria may not get help from the outside world as stated by Matthew Page, a US Africa policy expert was because of the unwillingness of the Nigerian military to accept international military cooperation. But he went ahead to say that seeking help from the outside was not the way forward for Nigeria. They have to end impunity and hold security forces accountable. This way, the country would be able to successfully fight insecurity.
