The 2023 presidential election will produce a new Nigerian President, as the current President, Muhammadu Buhari has less than two years to complete his second and last tenure. The awareness that Nigeria will get a new President in 2023, has compelled political parties to start mapping out important plans, which would see them take over power or retain power in 2023.[Image Credit: Google]
It has become a mindset that Nigeria's President must emerge from either of the two major political parties; the All Progressives Congress (APC) or the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as no political party aside these two has produced the country's President since democracy was introduced in the country in 1999.[Image Credit: Google]
However, a group of politicians have it mind to topple the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from their seat of dominance. In a report by Vanguard Newspapers on Tuesday, 21st of September, 2021, a group of politicians, including the former Governors of Kwara and Cross River States, Ahmed Abdulfatah and Donald Duke; a former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Muhammad Jega and Professor Patrick Utomi, created a new political party known as Rescue Nigeria Project (RNP).[Image Credit: Polish]
Giving his opening remarks, the National Co-ordinator of the Rescue Nigeria Project (RNP), Usman Bugaje revealed that the new political party was formed to rescue Nigeria from her present challenges and return her to her past glory. Usman Bugaje discarded the appeal that Nigeria's President should be picked based on where he or she comes from, explaining that competence should be a major criterion when picking the country's President.[Image Credit: Google]
The Rescue Nigeria Project (RNP) will be looking to win the 2023 presidential election, a challenge that looks Herculean. In my opinion, the Rescue Nigeria Project (RNP) could make one important move in order to match the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 presidential election.
1) The Rescue Nigeria Project (RNP) Could Win Other Political Parties Into Their Fold
Before the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was removed from power, other political parties merged to form the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2013. The Rescue Nigeria Project (RNP) could take a leaf of the All Progressives Congress' note and make efforts to see that other political parties join their camp.
