The 2023 Governorship Election is fast approaching and the Political Parties are preparing towards the time. Recalled that the last Governorship election was keenly between the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the All Progressives Congress, APC. The 2019 Governorship candidate of the PDP is Governor Seyi while that of the APC is Bayo Adelabu. It was the Governorship candidate of the PDP that won the 2019 Governorship Polls in Oyo State.
The Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Oyo State is very strong enough to defeat the Governorship candidate of any Political Parties but due to the Crisis in the Party, the PDP won the 2019 Governorship Polls. Governor Seyi Makinde won the Governorship Election through the coalition formed between his Party, PDP and other Political Parties in the State to defeat the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Though, Governor Seyi Makinde's Performance Surpassed other Governor's Performance in the southwest but the Political atmosphere may not favour the Governor in 2023 Governorship Polls. Governor Makinde hails from Ibadan, Oyo State. And It was Ibadan that Produced the last Governor in the state, which is Late Abiola Ajimobi. Ajimobi was the Governor of Oyo State for good eight years. Therefore, if Governor Makinde should complete his four years in office, it will make it sixteen years that Ibadan ruled the State.
The People of Oyo State may want to try another Governor from another town in the State, irrespective of their Political Parties. Other town in Oyo State may team up against Ibadan to Produce Governor from another town apart from Ibadan. The Power should either go to Ogbomoso, Oyo or Oke-ogun area of Oyo State. It is obvious that the PDP will give the Governorship ticket to Governor Seyi Makinde to complete his second term in office, because he has the control of the Party executives in the State.
The APC should try and Pick its Governorship candidate from other town except from Ibadan. The APC Man that can tackle Governor Makinde is the Senator representing Oyo North senatorial district, Senator Buhari Abdulfatai popularly Called BAF among his People. Senator Buhari Abdulfatai is competent enough to take the Governorship ticket in the Party. The Governorship candidate of the APC in 2019 Governorship Polls Bayo Adelabu, would have been the most credible candidate but because the man is from Ibadan, he might not be given the Governorship ticket due to zoning system.
BAF is a grassroot Politician in Oyo State he won the Senatorial ticket for the second time in the State. He is an indigen of Ogbomoso, Oyo State and He has Political structure in Oke-ogun area of Oyo State. The APC will find it very easy if Senator Buhari Abdulfatai could be given the Governorship ticket. BAF has cordial relationship with the former Governor, Alao Akala. Alao Akala will support BAF to win the 2023 Governorship Polls.
