A former Aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has expressed opposing view to the plea by President Buhari with the US government to relocate the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) from Stuttgart, Germany, to Africa, over growing insecurity crisis in the continent.
Recall that about a week ago, in a bid to stem the rising insecurity crisis in almost part of the country, president Buhari in during a virtual meeting with the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, pleaded with the United States to help Nigeria in overcoming the current insecurity situation by relocating the institution to Africa which will now be nearer to the Theatre of Operation.
However, while reacting to the development, Fani-Kayode said relocating AFRICOM to Africa will be the greatest mistake Africa can make.
He added that anyone that doubts his claim, should study history & consider the plight of those countries in the Middle & Far East & Asia after trusting the Americans for their defences.
In his words, he said:
"The biggest mistake Africa can make is to allow AFRICOM to leave Germany & move its base to our continent.
Anyone that doubts this should study history & consider the plight of those countries in the Middle & Far East & Asia after trusting the Americans for their defences."
To this end, many Nigerians who reacted to the ex-minister's statement, have continued to express divergent opinions on the matter, especially the kidnap and killing of abducted Kaduna students.
But in your view, do you think relocating AFRICOM to Africa or Nigeria, can help solve the present insecurity crisis ravaging the country ?
