Ever since the administration of President Muhammad Buhari began, the Igbos have been criticizing president Muhammad Buhari's choices of official appointment.
This is because 95% percent of President Buhari cabinet members, and appointments all hail from the North, with very few easterners especially the Igbo's a part of it, this has raised questions from notable politicians and some Nigerians as to why the President is not including the Igbo's in his administration.
Could it be that the Igbo's were not part of the President's plan or are they just not qualified for jobs and appointments? This and many more are questions asked by Nigerians, and the Igbo people at large.
Many have even gone ahead to accuse the president of the marginalization, saying that he did not care about the Igbos.
Just a few days ago, the president had come out to inform Nigerians about the news of his service chiefs, he let Nigerians know that his service chiefs had tended their resignation letter and that he had accepted it, this news brought about high hopes for the Igbos as they hoped this time that the president would consider the Igbos while choosing new service chiefs.
However it came as a shock to many Nigerians when President Muhammad Buhari had submitted the names of his new service chiefs a few days ago, and there was no name of an Igbo man yet again, this triggered lots of reactions from Nigerians once again as President Buhari was heavily criticized once again.
Below are photos of the newly appointed service chiefs:
Although there is still one vacant seat left, as the IGP Mr. Adamu had announced his retirement, Nigerians are hoping that the President could give the seat of the Inspector General Of Police to the Igbos, as an appointment given to them would boost the confidence of the Igbos, and reduce the criticism.
However, on this note, it is important to note that the Igbos aren't just the only ethnic group in Nigeria, and as such president Muhammad Buhari should only give the job appointment to the most suitable, and capable individual not minding the ethnicity or tribe he or she comes from.
If the president was to appoint service chiefs and cabinet members based on ethnicity, then Nigeria would be ungovernable as there would be 250 service chiefs and cabinet members from all the tribes in Nigeria which makes no sense.
The president should be allowed to run the affairs of the country, as he cannot please everyone, rather than clamor for an Igbo appointment, the Igbos should work harder for recognition which would come without mounting pressures.
If there are individuals who hail from other tribes who are more qualified than the Igbos then, President Muhammad Buhari should appoint such individuals, all we need is an individual who would carry out his duties accordingly.
What are your opinions about this?
Don't you agree that ethnicity shouldn't be a basis of selection but rather capability?
