INEC's Restrictions During Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is the agency responsible for conducting elections in Nigeria. However, there are certain things that INEC cannot do until the election process is concluded.

According to the electoral act, INEC cannot declare a winner until all the votes have been counted and collated. It is only after this process has been completed that the commission can announce the winner of the election. This is to ensure that the election is free and fair and that the will of the people is reflected in the outcome.

INEC cannot change the rules of the election once the process has started. The commission must adhere to the electoral laws and regulations set out by the government, and any changes to these rules must be made before the election process begins. This is to ensure that the election is conducted transparently and fairly.

INEC cannot influence the outcome of the election in any way. The commission must remain neutral and impartial throughout the election process and must not take sides or show any favoritism towards any particular candidate or political party.

This is to ensure that the election is free and fair and that the will of the voters is reflected in the final result.

INEC cannot prevent eligible voters from casting their votes. The commission must ensure that every eligible voter can exercise their right to vote and must provide adequate facilities and resources to facilitate this process. This is to ensure that the election is inclusive and that every voice is heard.

INEC cannot allow any form of electoral malpractice or misconduct. The commission must not relent in taking immediate action to investigate and address any issues that arise during the election process and must ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.

This is to ensure that the election is conducted transparently and fairly. These limitations need to be understood and respected to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
