Court Strikes Out Certificate Forgery Suit Against Obaseki

Justice Anwuli Chikere of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, on Monday, struck out a suit seeking the disqualification of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the forthcoming Edo State governorship election, Governor Godwin Obaseki over alleged certificate forgery.

The plaintiffs, Mr. Edobor Williams, Amedu Dauda Anakhu and Ugbesia Abudu Godwin, had accused Obaseki of forging his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) certificate in Classical Studies from the University of Ibadan.

The plaintiffs, in the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/553/2020 include; Mr Edobor Williams, Mr Ugbesia Godwin and Mr Amedu Anakhu.

The trio argued that the defendant is not qualified to run or seek election to the office of the governor of Edo State in the forthcoming 2020 governorship election.

At the mention of the case on Monday, neither the plaintiffs nor their lawyers were in court. The defendant too was not represented.

In the light of this, Justice Anwuli Chiekere, however, proceeded to strike out the suit for time-wasting.

It would be recalled that the All Progressives Congress Screening Committee had on June 12, 2020 disqualified Obaseki from participating in the party’s primary election slated for June 22, over what they described as anomalies in his educational credentials.

The panel doubted the National Youth Service Certificate (NYSC) and the testimonial of the Institute of Continuing Education Benin city submitted by Obaseki.
