3 Top Offices Amaechi Has Occupied Since 1999

Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, who hails from Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, is one of the top noble politicians in the country. He has occupied at least three key offices in his political career. He has been at the realm of politics since 1999. And he doesn't appear to leave the stage soon.

Mr. Amaechi began to appear on the stage of politics in 1999 when he was elected to represent a state constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly. The politician was not just lucky to be elected as a lawmaker, he was later appointed by the honourables to become the speaker of the house.

Apparently, his leadership of the House of Assembly paved the way for him to take over from the first PDP governor in the state, Peter Odili. But it was not a smooth journey. Initially, the PDP politician, Mr. Celestine Omehia was declared winner of the Rivers State gubernatorial election in 2007. His victory didn't last as he was removed the same year.

Mr. Amaechi approached the court to argue that he was the validly elected or nominated candidate of the People's Democratic Party for the 2007 governorship election. Surprisingly, his argument was convincing and the court said that he was truly the candidate of the party and that he should take over the affairs of the state.

So, the second office that Mr. Rotimi Amaechi has occupied is that of the Rivers State governor. He was in the office from 2007 to 2015 spanning eight years. He was reelected in 2011. But there was a change in his political tactics towards the end of his administration as the governor of Rivers State. He left the party.

There was a bit of internal matters and issues in the PDP and Mr. Amaechi considered that it was time he dumped the PDP. He left the party and embraced the All Progressives Congress, which was freshly formed. His departure from the PDP to the APC was shocking, but it opened a door for him at the national level.

Upon his defection to the APC, he was chosen as the chairman of the APC campaign committee for the 2015 presidential election. Amaechi worked really hard to ensure that Mr. Muhammadu Buhari become the president of the country. He did a devastating blow to the PDP, his former political camp.

In order to reward or compensate Amaechi for the good job he did for the APC and for the president, he was appointed as a member of the cabinet of the president. He was appointed as minister of transportation. He has been heading the office since 2015 till this moment.
