River state commissioner of Agriculture announced some hours ago that they have intercepted a truckload of substandard Ponmo which is called cowhide in English. Ponmo is cow skin which has been processed for consumers to cook and eat like beef. Over the years, it has become an important delicacy that people can't do without.
The substandard Ponmo intercepted by the rivers state government was reported to be substandard and the two truck drivers have been arrested. This cowskin was imported from Madagascar.
I know people like imported materials because they believe it has superior quality but I can't believe that it has gotten to "Ponmo level". This is something that is produced locally almost everywhere in the country. This import mentality is killing many businesses in Nigeria because people prefer foreign products.
In reaction to this, Lauretta Onochie, one of the aide to President Muhammadu Buhari on media and publicity said that this culture of importing substandard products must stop, she revealed that we probably import sand too.
Imported Ponmo or locally made, which one do you prefer?
