How Secondus Case May Cause More Problems For PDP

Mr. Uche Secondus has said that he wouldn't withdraw the case from the court. And this means all is not yet well with the opposition party just as it gets ready for the national convention. His case may cause more problems for the opposition party more than what the party leaders may imagine.

Recall that after a series of deliberation, Mr. Uche Secondus was relieved of his political appointment. And there has been an acting chairman steering the affairs of the party. But there is a matter in court that is yet to be settled and Mr. Secondus has clearly stated that he wouldn't withdraw the case from court.

Meanwhile, the northern region has presented a consensus candidate. The northern caucus has finalised to pick Mr. Iyorchia Ayu, a politician from Benue State. This is good, but there may be controversies for the Benue State politician when he finally becomes the party chairman.

The PDP faced a similar crisis when Mr. Ali Modu Sheriff was in charge of the party affairs. There were several court matters that also involved Mr. Ahmed Makarfi, a former governor of Kaduna State. The crisis almost engulfed the political party.

Of course, each of them relied on some supports at that time. Mr. Ali Modu Sheriff relied on some court orders whereas Mr. Ahmed Makarfi was recognised as the chairman of the PDP caretaker committee. Initially, a Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt said that Ali Modu Sheriff was the chairman. However, the Supreme Court later ruled that Makarfi was the authentic chairman of the party.

Now that Mr. Uche Secondus is still presenting his case at the court, it is possible that the court reinstates him as the authentic chairman of the party. He insists that what he wants for the party is justice. Hence, he wouldn't withdraw the case from court.

If the case lasts longer than necessary, it may hamper the progress of the party ahead of 2023 general elections. Surely, some politicians would identify themselves with the removed national chairman. And that would lead to division or polarisation of the political party which aims to take over power in 2023.
