APC Chieftains & Serving Federal Lawmakers Being Investigated For Alleged Murder

This piece takes a look at two serving members of the house of representatives being currently investigated for alleged culpable homicide. They are also chieftains of the All Progressive Congress, APC, from Kano and Bauchi states. 

Alhassan Ado Doguwa, APC

The Majority Leader of the house of representatives is standing trial over alleged culpable homicide. This is contained in a report published by the Channelstv. 

According to the reports, the lawmaker was arrested for allegedly leading an attack on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in his constituency, which resulted in the death of six people. 

It was alleged that the INEC official declared Doguwa the winner of the election at a gunpoint.

His name was later removed from the list of elected House of Representatives members. INEC had remarked his election result was a “declaration made under duress.”

The Federal High Court in Kano, presided over by Justice Muhammad Yunusa, has granted him bail in the sum of N500m, and equally restrained him from going to his constituency for the March 11 gubernatorial and state House Assembly elections.

Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi, APC

The serving lawmaker representing Bauchi federal constituency was on Monday declared wanted by the Police for talleged incitement, disturbance of public peace, and culpable homicide. This is contained in a report. published by the Leadership Newspaper. 

According to the report, the Reps member was being investigated for the role he allegedly played in the recent violent clash in Duguri town, the birthplace of the Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, when the campaign train of the All Progressives Congress (APC) visited the area for campaign. 

The clash however resulted in the killing of one person while many others were injured.

He was elected in 2019 under the banner of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), left to join the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and contested for the Senatorial ticket but lost to Senator Lawal Yahaya Gumau.

He is now back in the APC and a member of the gubernatorial campaign council of Amb Saddique Baba Abubakar who is vying for the seat of the Governor in the forthcoming elections.
