Opinion: 2 Actions Buhari Should Take Now To Stop Agitation For 'Yoruba Nation'

Lately there has been calls for the disintegration of Nigeria as some individuals from the Southwest are agitating for a sovereign state for the region. Recall that weeks ago Sunday Igboho alongside Professor Banji Akintoye declared Oduduwa Republic and since then, agitators has taken to the streets as sensitization campaign intended to create awareness on the need for 'Yoruba Nation' continues across the region.

Hours ago, there was a massive turnout of ah who stormed Ibadan, Oyo state in continuation of the sensitization exercise. The large turnout caught my attention and I fear if this is allowed to continue, it could lead to serious issue in the nearest future. This is why I would advise President Muhamadu Buhari to urgently do this two things to stop the agitation.

1) Invite Sunday Igboho and other stakeholders involved for a round table conversation.

This is important so that the President can adequately understand their plight. During the meeting, he should continue them on the need to stay together as a nation.

2) The Southwest is arguably the second largest region in Nigeria after the North and for that, he should promise them more slot in his government as regards appointments.

The 2023 presidential election is barely two years away and if the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) can promise to get someone from the region as flag bearer for Presidency, then we may just be the answer to call for 'Yoruba Nation.'
