A former senator that represents Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, Shehu Sani reiterated that the first function of the government is to secure the country. Shehu Sani said,
"Securing the country is the first and most important thing a responsible Government should do. Rails, Roads, and Bridges can’t be used if those who will use them live at the mercy of terrorists."
This statement is coming after the insecurity in Nigeria increased in the past few weeks. It was reported that an Assistant Inspector General of Police was attacked on Wednesday. The government should help the security agencies by ensuring that they are well equipped with the state of the art facilities that will be more sophisticated than that of the terrorists.
The government has the responsibility of also providing remuneration to the security agencies to boost their morale in safeguarding the country from any attack. Just like what Shehu Sani has said, infrastructural development is good, but security is paramount and above all things in the country. If people are not secure, they won't even have the time to use these infrastructures.
